Glad Tidings Kansas City History

Glad Tidings Church began in 1984 when Reverend and Sister Fraser, recently returned from Guyana and staying in Brooklyn, were contacted about pioneering a new church in Kansas City. After prayerful consideration, the family visited Kansas City on July 17, 1984, received full support from the Assemblies of God, and soon identified a building at 6135 Prospect Ave. They moved in that September and, with help from several area churches, renovated the facility. Before the official launch, the Frasers held Bible studies in their upstairs home.

The church opened on November 25, 1984, with about 50 in attendance. Glad Tidings grew steadily and became a self-supporting General Council church in 1990.  As the congregation expanded, the church broke ground on a new property at 2830 E. 60th St. in April 1994. A remarkable provision of free soil and equipment from the 71 Highway project made the land usable. Volunteers, engineers, and supportive churches helped complete the new facility.

In 1996, Sister Errolyn Fraser founded Glad Tidings Christian Academy and Daycare, which served hundreds of families for 26 years until closing after the COVID‑19 pandemic. Over 40 years, the ministry has experienced God’s guidance, provision, and growth. We remain grateful for every member who has joined the Glad Tidings family and give God all the glory for what has been accomplished—and for what is yet to come.
